The atmosphere, food and staff are all phenomenal. Would recommend to everyone I know.
It was excellent. The food is traditional Taiwanese. They serve dishes here that many other places do not have such as jellyfish and stinky tofu. Their bubble tea is strong on the tea flavor and tastes like they use actual tea. Their dishes were prepared well. Everything had the right sear and crisp showing their skill with the woks.
The lo mein was tasty and filling, spring roll was nice and crispy. The only let down was the soup dumplings: they were just lacking a certain kick. Aside from that its a top notch place; might be best to call ahead, they are ALWAYS packed
Excellent Taiwanese restaurant. This restaurant offers authentic Taiwanese cuisine with the reasonable price. Its interior is stylish and chic. Menu is available on the Internet, and you can check it in advance. We ordered steamed mini soup pork buns as an appetizer and that was amazing! It tasted like ones I ate in the authentic restaurant in Taipei.
We made a reservation for 11 people and ate family style. Everythimg we ordered was wonderful and the waitress was very kind, quick, and informative.
I had the beef short ribs and they were amazing. The wait staff were also nice and friendly, and the service was good. I very strongly recommend Cafe 33 for anyone interested in Taiwanese food.
Great food and service. Definitely will be returning.
Other than our waitress Alice. The place and the food was below average. I had the Ginger Beef with Scallions. No scallions just an overwhelming amount of sliced red onions. The ginger??? There was none that I tasted. Then after not even an hour with food and drinks still on our table. We were asked to leave. They way over booked and COULDN'T handle it. Loved Alice tho. Beautiful girl and very friendly and attentive. Probably won't go back.
Authentic Taiwanese food here.
Delicious food and friendly service! As a novice eater of Taiwanese cuisine, I asked for advice from the waitress on what to order. She asked what I like and recommended several dishes. I chose the Scallion Pancake with Egg and the Chicken with Basil & Garlic in Hot Pot.The Scallion Pancake was tasty - much more eggy than the Scallion Pancakes that I have had in other Chinese restaurants that are thick fried bread with scallions. This was more like an omelet with scallions. The Chicken Hot Pot was fantastic! Bites of good quality chicken, basil, and tender scallions in a tasty sauce with whole and half cloves of roasted garlic. Wow! I can still taste it! Here's a photo.I'm sure that things get hectic when it's crowded. If you don't like that, come at a slower time. But don't miss this gem!
Was a great change of pace to Asian food in pittsburgh
Dishes from both the American and Chinese menus are very good. The spicy beef tripe special had pleasant but not overpowering heat, and great flavor. Hot pots are also very good (and spicier!). The beef and broccoli is very peppery and among the best I've had.
Absolutely incredible. The service needs to be improved
It was a decent place to eat. But flavor wasn't up to my other Taiwanese experience!
Very delicious rice cake noodle dishes. Authentic dishes. One of my fave Chinese restaurants in the city. Staff is very nice and helpful. BYOB. Entire party must be there to be seated.
The staff went above and beyond to accommodate my family. The server even gave us another table for my 2 year old son, that was on my lap so that we could all be comfortable. I would like to give that server 10 stars. Not many servers are so kind when it comes to young children, 60 percent seem annoyed for some reason. The food is great with very large portions and a low price. We will return soon.
One of my top spots for quality Taiwanese food. I give this place double thumbs up. This place has a good feel to it. I can see why they have a lot of great reviews.
The best place to get Taiwanese food in Pittsburgh. Shocked that they even had 油飯and麵線. One of the few places I often come back to. The black pepper beef short ribs and seafood rice cake are my favorite dishes.
Great vegetarian selection and care to make sure that there is no fish sauce etc.
Very good and authentic food. It was definitely busy but worth it.
With former Rose Tea Cafe employees running the front of the house, and the former Rose Tea Cafe chef running the kitchen, Cafe 33 is clearly aiming to dethrone Rose Tea Cafe as the best Taiwanese restaurant in Pittsburgh. And right now, Cafe 33 is in the lead. From the bubble tea to the 烤麩 (kao fu, which Rose Tea Cafe hasn’t had on the menu for 10 years) to the 臭豆腐 (smelled crispy bean curd), Cafe 33 is easily besting their competition, and they’ve only been open for 2 months. There’s probably enough interest in Asian food in Squirrel Hill to support two Taiwanese restaurants, but Rose Tea Cafe seriously needs to up their game if they intend to compete with Cafe 33.
Authentic Chinese food! We ordered short ribs with black pepper sauce, eggplant with garlic sauce, and spicy crispy chicken for dinner. The food came out really fast and hot, and came with white rice. Our favorite was the short ribs but they are all very good! Would definitely return when I'm in the area.
One of the best restaurants! It has authentic Chinese cuisine and most of the dishes are so tasty! My favorites are soup dumplings and braised pork
Taiwanese bistro is the best place to go for Chinese / Taiwanese style food. The size of the menu makes it very difficult to find Americanized options. So be sure to break out of your shell and try something new!I have been there many times. The best way to order is as a group select options you like and try a little of each.My favorite option is the Garlic and ginger sauce fish (not the real name but you will see in the fish category).I've never had a bad dish or a bad experience here. Hands down my one of my favorite places to eat at.
Taiwanese food, yeah, so tasty. Came here on a Saturday. The staff was very helpful and welcoming. Prices were appropriate.
Authentic food, a bit on the pricey side compared to other Chinese food restaurants in the area. This place also gets a bit busy so depending on what time you go there may be a little wait. The food was yummy though!
Amazing lion head meat balls and (of course) Taiwanese sausage
I have gone to Cafe 33 multiple times and it never disappoints. Start off with the soup dumplings because they are the best dumplings you'll ever have! Where you go from there is up to you, but anything you choose will be delicious. Why are you still reading my review, go out and try some Cafe 33 already!!
The ambiance was relaxing and enjoyable. The service was great, because we got our food immediately. The food was very clean and fresh. Everything tasted great! this restaurant is a great place to try new things. Try the soup dumplings!, fried intestines, spicy string beans, pepper beef tips, double sauteed pork, and the chicken in the pot. The only thing is that the food lacked just a tiny (very tiny, but would make a huge different) bit of flavor/sauce/salt.
I did like their food. But last time they charged wrong but refused to return money, and said "you can come next time we will take this amount off." Weird. Even though the food is not bad, I won't go anymore.
I had one of the best meals I've had in Pittsburgh right here. Flavors are super authentic and powerful. Three place is a bit run down, but that's how it goes with Taiwanese cuisine: if people don't seem to pay much attention to the decorations, they are probably paying a lot of attention to the food. Yummy! Would go back anytime
Is excellent Very good hand made soup dumplings, the best!! Also the beef stew noodle soup is excellent.
This is a really good and busy place! Everyone was very friendly. The tables are very close together so you kind of have to squeeze in to get to your table. The wait for a table wasn't too long. The service was very good and the food was excellent! Prices are very fair. The noise level is very high but bearable. This place used to be a laundry mat a while back. I used to do laundry here. Quite a nice transition. Street parking only. A very diverse clientele young and old. Very nice mix. Go here!
Taiwansese Bistro Cafe 33! They not only surprised me with their prices ( I thought for sure they would up-charge) but the food was surprising very good. Atmosphere was good as well as VERY attentive service. Great Great!
Ordered a TO GO and ask for a cup of water and did not give Us. Offer us 2dollar of water bottle instead, that counts for bad review.
One of the few REALLY good places for authentic Taiwanese/Chinese food. The place is usually packed on the weekends (which is a great sign). Coming from NY, I'd say this is one of the few places in Pittsburgh where you can find a comparable taste to a local restaurant in Queens, NY.We need more places like Café 33 in Pittsburgh!
Lunch with sunshine: seafood over rice. Ordered Fish fillet with basil in casserole for take out. Great food
Great authentic Taiwanese food. Not much of the menu has been westernized so the food is actually decent. There hasn't been any absurd amount of sugar added, or some over the top food plating arrangement. Keep in mind though, that it is tight inside.
Amazing Taiwanese cuisine! Had the braised pork over rice, soup dumplings and egg tortilla roll. Very polite waitress to explain the dishes and make recommendations.
I've been here a couple of times and loved everything I tried. I've never been to Taiwan, but the food seems very authentic. I've had the duck yolk pork rib tips, be feng tong squid, and the stinky tofu. Fried foods come out very crispy and the flavors are great. Table space can be limited if you order multiple appetizers. I will definitely come back to try more.
fried rice with Taiwanese sausage, sauteed cabbage, fried pork over rice, fried chicken over rice, sauteed pork belly with garlic sprouts, soup dumplings, intestine, scallion pancakes. all of these were delicious and I would highly recommend.
This is very authentic Taiwan style cafe, all the food is great! It really feels like I'm in Taiwan. Their egg pancake is really authentic. Taiwanese eat this everyday for breakfast! Do not miss it!
Good! Pretty authentic. I've been to Taipei and this is reminiscent -- even the aroma of the place. I had stinky tofu and a stir fry made with chive greens.
We visited Taiwanese Bistro Cafe 33 by accident when we saw lots of people waiting to be seated outside. We were lucky that the wait wasn’t too bad since there were only 2 of us in our group. The owner was super friendly, attentive and made us feel home during our dinging there. The options on the menu were various and we had a hard time making the decisions. The food was amazingly authentic, delicious and much much better than any Taiwanese restaurants in NYC. Our favorite was the salted egg yolk fried pork chop, it was flavorful and juicy inside. Overall, Pittsburgh is too far to visit frequently but we will definitely dine here again if we are around.
In short, we loved the food, but the experience was challenging. Space is very very limited, both in seating and parking. Service is scattered and the vibe is chaotic. It reminds me of my favorite places in Flushing. Don't let those things deter you, because you'll be in for some delicious food. We got the spicy string beans with minced pork and dry tofu and pork. It's authentic and well priced, but don't expect to stay long and mingle or have a meaningful conversation with the noise.
I eat Chinese food all the time since I am Chinese & this place is definitely worth your time. Super delicious and fast service. Ordered over 7 dishes and everything tasted spot on. Will be returning soon!
Came here for my birthday dinner and was not disappointed! Service was a tad on the slow side but my meal (shredded pork with bamboo shoots) was phenomenal. I'll definitely be back!
